While investors see a risk of oversupply in DCs within the region, Dunbar notes that risk of oversupply is limited. He also notes with “high confidence” that looking at the recent capital market transactions, a few of the companies in the private space will list soon.
Investors agree that Asean is undergoing a data centre (DC) boom, but are cautious that there are no direct listed plays in the space and that indirect plays in Malaysia have “already run up”, notes Maybank Securities’ analyst Hussaini Saifee in his Oct 21 note.
This insight was gathered from Maybank’s September report which was a deep dive into DCs featuring the sentiment of 15 investors. The firm also hosted data centre expert Daryl Dunbar, partner of digital infrastructure at Internal Consulting Group on an investor call with 120 inventors.
