The starting point for staying invested in equities is a loss of confidence in the US bond market, says Wang Qi, chief investment officer, private wealth, UOB Kay Hian (Hong Kong).

For the immediate future, it is advisable to err on the side of caution and adopt a defensive stance with stocks such as Berkshire Hathaway and China Mobile.

In the long run, Wang believes that artificial intelligence (AI) has a lengthy runway both in China and the US. The likes of Tencent and Alibaba Group should be core holdings despite the volatility of the Trump administration’s policies towards China.
