WHAT’S BUZZING

Southeast Asian consumers recognise generative AI’s potential

Consumers in Southeast Asia believe generative AI will transform their interactions with brands. They are most excited for brands to help them find things better online (32%), make experiences more relevant and helpful (30%), and enhance the creativity of content they engage with (27%).

Adobe’s Future of Digital Experiences Report also reveals that in the next two years, consumers in the region expect to view products through virtual or augmented reality (90%) and want brands to provide new ways to engage in immersive and virtual worlds.

In response, brands are planning to offer new and innovative digital experiences such as providing the ability to build virtual products and convert them into physical items (84%), offering digital tokens to trade for virtual and physical products (84%), rolling out virtual games for users to win points or prizes (81%), and hosting virtual/immersive events (78%).

“As economic challenges intensify, customer expectations for always-on, personalised content will continue to grow. Marketers across Southeast Asia recognise this soaring demand and are proactively embracing advanced technologies such as generative AI to maintain a competitive edge. Strategically investing in cutting-edge technologies to transform their brand interactions results in enhanced organisational efficiency and allows for exceptional customer experiences,” says Simon Dale, Adobe’s vice president and managing director for Southeast Asia and Korea.

Singapore organisations foresee a successful cyberattack this year

Cyber risk levels in Asia Pacific (Apac) have improved from the first half to the second half of 2022, according to Trend Micro’s biannual Cyber Risk Index (CRI) report.

“We’ve seen a drastic improvement in the Apac cyber risk index since the first half of 2022, with figures moving into positive territory at 0.05 from negative levels. This is a promising result as it means that organisations have greatly stepped up to improve their cyber preparedness,” says Nilesh Jain, vice president for Southeast Asia and India at Trend Micro.

Yet, organisations in Singapore remain pessimistic about the threat landscape, with 88% citing it was “somewhat to very likely” that they will experience a successful cyberattack in the next 12 months.

The top five cyber threats they expect to experience this year are clickjacking, web scrapping, business email compromise, fileless attack, and man-in-the-middle attacks. Singaporean respondents also cited a shortage of qualified personnel as their current infrastructure security risk. This is followed by cloud computing and infrastructure, mobile or remote employees, virtual computing environments (servers and endpoints), and lack of system connectivity or visibility.

To address new complexities arising from an expanding attack surface, security teams must bolster their proactive attack surface risk management capabilities, says Jain. “On top of architecture improvements for enhanced interoperability, scalability and agility, having a unified cybersecurity platform with extended detection and response capabilities is critical in enhancing security teams’ visibility and response to cyber threats across internal and external systems, accounts and devices. This would give organisations a leg up in understanding, communicating, and mitigating expected risks.”
