The roll-out comes amid a surge in scam cases. In 2024, Singapore logged 51,501 scams involving more than $1.1 billion in losses. In May 2025 alone, $16.9 million was lost to scams in which callers impersonating government officials accused victims of being involved in crimes such as money laundering.
StarHub has launched ScamSafe, a mobile app that automatically blocks known scam calls and filters suspicious SMS messages before they appear. Users can also set up keyword filters for SMS, check unknown numbers against a constantly updated scam database, and report scams to help protect others.
Singapore users who sign up before December 31 will receive a free six-month trial. Afterward, the app will cost $2.99 a month for StarHub customers and $4.99 for non-subscribers, with no contract required.
