Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced the resumption of codeshare flights with Virgin Australia, allowing passengers to book flights on Virgin Australia to selected destinations on SIA’s network.

In a joint release with Virgin Australia , SIA says the resumption will go into effect immediately, and customers who book flights on Virgin Australia’s website will be able to enjoy “seamless travel” between Australia and destinations in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Virgin Australia will codeshare on 42 destinations covering 23 countries, including Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, Seoul in South Korea, and Jakarta in Indonesia, as well as SIA’s home base of Singapore.

Singapore Airlines continues to offer codeshare flights on 64 routes covering 31 destinations on Virgin Australia's domestic and international network, including the addition of Queenstown in New Zealand.

The move is “the next step in returning the carriers' partnership to pre-pandemic operations,” SIA added.

This also follows the resumption of redemption bookings, as well as mileage to points conversion for SIA’s KrisFlyer and Virgin Australia’s Velocity members earlier this year.

As a result of the announcement, arrival and departure boards across the world will also feature Virgin Australia's VA airline code on SIA flights.

SIA’s senior vice president for marketing planning, Tan Jo Ann, says “the return of the VA code on SIA flights provides even more opportunities for Australians to seamlessly explore the world, no matter where they are based. As more countries across Asia remove travel restrictions, it also opens up Australia to travellers from these regions.”

The two carriers says they will continue to work closely to expand codeshare flights to more destinations across the SIA network in the coming weeks, subject to regulatory approval.

Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines established their alliance partnership in 2011, with the agreement extended for a further five years in 2022.

Shares of SIA were trading at 5.29, down 12 cents of 2.22% from its previous close.
