Airline caterer SATS, which also handles airfreight and other gateway services, has the capabilities to transport the experimental Covid-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer, according to CEO Alex Hungate.
Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine, according to news reports, is required to be kept at -70 degrees Celsius.
Such a requirement could be an obstacle in ensuring the integrity of the vaccine during transportation.
Nevertheless, Hungate assures that the company, its subsidiaries and associates are CEIV Pharma certified.
This certification indicates that SATS’s facilities, equipment, operations and staff comply with all applicable standards, regulations and guidelines expected from pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Hungate says SATS can use liquid nitrogen to keep the vaccine at -70 degrees Celsius.
In fact, the company has handled shipments under similar temperatures before, he adds.
“We are certified to handle at that temperature,” he says at SATS’s 1HFY2021 results briefing this evening.
SATS closed up 7 cents or 2% at $3.60 on Nov 12, with 5.2 million shares changed hands.
