Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) has won a five-year component Maintenance-By-The-Hour (MBH) contract from Japan Airlines (JAL) on Oct 28.
The contract was signed by the group’s commercial aerospace business.
Under the contract, ST Engineering will provide full integrated component support starting September to the entire fleet of Boeing 787 aircraft belonging to JAL and its low-cost subsidiary, ZIPAIR Tokyo.
The latest contract adds to an ongoing Boeing 737-800 component MBH programme that the group has with JAL.

As part of a customised solution with JAL, ST Engineering will introduce an on-wing component health and reliability management programme.
The programme uses in-house developed software to provide diagnostics and prescriptive advisory by detecting anomalies and predicting components’ remaining useful life.
“We thank Japan Airlines for placing their trust in us once again to support them with our trademark MBH programme,” says Jeffrey Lam, president of commercial aerospace at ST Engineering.
“Through this latest partnership, we will not only widen our scope of service for Japan Airlines, but also deepen our level of service by employing predictive maintenance capabilities to enable better maintenance scheduling and reduction of aircraft downtime, so that Japan Airlines can extract optimal value from their assets,” Lam adds.
Yukio Nakagawa, executive officer, procurement at Japan Airlines, says, “We are pleased to announce that Japan Airlines has signed a contract for a 787 component MBH programme, following the 737-800. We are convinced that this programme will also support us in operating our 787 fleet with high safety, quality and reliability.”
“I believe ST Engineering and Japan Airlines will enhance their partnership through this latest agreement which includes collaborations on predictive maintenance,” Nakagawa adds.
As at 12.17pm, shares in ST Engineering are trading 4 cents lower or 1.03% down at $3.85.
