The vaccinated travel lanes between Singapore and Malaysia commenced earlier this morning, bringing the two countries on a key step towards eventual reconnecting after 20 months.

The borders were restricted last March, to curb the pandemic, throwing what was one of the busiest land crossing points in the world into an unfamiliar silence.

Under the arrangement, up to 1,440 travellers from each side can cross if they hold citizenship, permanent residency or long-term visas in the destination country. They do not need to sit through quarantine.
