“With our urban environment, Singapore is quite ideal as a test-bed for the rapid adoption of EVs,” Ong said.
After years of not doing much to foster the uptake of electric cars, Singapore has started to embrace them.
Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung, speaking in parliament last week, said there is a net carbon positive impact in switching from gas guzzlers to electric vehicles, “even if the electricity is generated by fossil fuels.” And last month, Singapore pledged $30 million over five years for EV-related initiatives.
