APS Asset Management has appointed former deputy prime minister Heng Swee Keat as a senior advisor to the fund management firm, with effect from July 1.
Throughout his decades of service in the public sector, Heng held key business and economic roles ranging from the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry to managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
APS was founded by executive chairman and chief strategist Wong Kok Hoi, a keen China watcher known to hold bullish views on China.
Wong recalls that his first “serious engagement” was over a private dinner with Heng, who, as then DPM, and who “got me firing on all cylinders” and marked the start of “a meaningful and fruitful association.”
According to Wong, he invited Heng to be the keynote speaker at the 19th annual investment conference organised by his firm.
“I found him to be intellectually curious, mentally sharp, and measured, characterised by an understated humility that belied his distinguished record of service,” says Wong.
