Singapore Technologies Engineering (ST Engineering) has announced the appointments of Teo Ming Kian as an independent director and Tan Peng Yam as a non-independent non-executive director on its board, effective August 1.
Teo,69, is the present chairman of Temasek’s Vertex Venture Holdings, as well as a non-executive director of Temasek Holdings.
Tan, 63, is the chief defence scientist of the Singapore Ministry of Defence (Mindef). He was appointed to the role in May, succeeding Quek Gim Pew, who currently sits on the ST Engineering board.
Pursuant to his transition from the chief defence scientist role, Quek will be stepping down from the ST Engineering board. He currently serves as senior R&D consultant for Mindef.

According to its filing to SGX on July 26, Teo was previously the permanent secretary and executive chairman for several Singapore government ministries and agencies. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Monash University in Australia and Master of Science degree in Management Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is also a fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering.
Meanwhile, Tan joined the Defence Science Organisation in 1983 and has held various defence positions in Mindef, including chief executive of Defence Science and Technology Agency. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) from the University of Tasmania, Australia.
Shares in ST Engineering closed 1 cent or 0.25% lower at $3.96 on July 26.
