Minister for Transport S Iswaran is currently assisting in investigations conducted by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).
According to a July 11 statement by CPIB, the investigation was due to a case that was uncovered by the bureau, although no further details were provided.
It adds that the bureau will “investigate this case thoroughly with [a] strong resolve to establish the facts and the truth”, while stressing that Singapore adopts a “strict zero-tolerance approach towards corruption”.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has asked Iswaran to take a leave of absence till the investigations are completed. He adds that he has been briefed by the director of CPIB and gave him his concurrence on July 6 to open a formal investigation involving Iswaran and several others.
In Iswaran’s absence, Senior Minister of State Chee Hong Tat will become the acting Minister for Transport.
