US companies like Nvidia are expected to comply with US export controls and Singapore’s domestic legislation, says the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) in a statement dated Feb 1.

The statement follows reports that the US is looking into whether DeepSeek bought advanced Nvidia semiconductors through intermediaries in Singapore.

In its statement, the MTI noted that while Singapore accounts for about 22% of Nvidia’s revenue, the Nasdaq-listed company stated in its regulatory filing that “most shipments associated with Singapore revenue were to locations other than Singapore, and shipments to Singapore were insignificant”.
