DBS Bank is offering free delivery of its QR gift cards for customers this Chinese New Year.
From Jan 16 to Jan 26, customers will be able to order their preferred amount of cards online, and they will be delivered by mail, by Feb 10, at no cost.
The gift cards, which are popularly known as QR ang baos (or red packets), enable customers to load cash values onto unique QR codes.
The cards are made of environmentally-friendly, FSC-certified paper and are designed to be gifted on their own.
According to DBS, the above factors make the gift cards the more sustainable approach to the festive season, compared to traditional red packets, which are harder to recycle.
Since its launch in 2019, DBS QR Gift has seen some $2.8 million loaded onto the gift cards since Chinese New Year in 2020.
“Exchanging ang baos is a well-loved and time-honoured CNY tradition that symbolises good fortune and luck. We believe DBS QR Gift is a good balance between tradition and technology. By offering the complimentary delivery service, we hope to make the DBS QR Gift cards a lot more accessible to our customers, so they can keep the tradition going and safely share good blessings with their loved ones even during the pandemic,” says Jeremy Soo, head of consumer banking group (Singapore) at DBS Bank.
Shares in DBS Bank closed 14 cents lower or 0.5% down at $26.85 on Jan 15.
