SINGAPORE (July 20): Singapore’s newest telco TPG Telecom is launching a new “Seniors Go Digital” commercial mobile plan for senior citizens today at a promotional price of $5 until 31 July 2021. The plan will include 20GB of local data at full LTE speed, 300 minutes of local calls, 30 local SMS alongside free caller ID and incoming calls among other perks.

Said CEO Richard Tan, “While many of us were able to quickly tap on digital tools for our daily activities during this pandemic, many seniors do not have access to affordable and worry-free mobile plans. This makes it more challenging for them to adapt to the new normal which requires constant connectivity.”

According to TPG, all Singaporeans and Permanent Residents aged 60 years and above are eligible for both the promotion and plan. After 31 July 2021, the price of the plan will double to $10. In a press release, the firm says that the plan is geared towards offering seniors the “best value for money” and helping them avoid bill shocks should they exceed the 20GB local data limit. The plan allows users to enjoy always-on data at 512kbps after the first 20GB is used.

The plan also includes free 1GB data roaming to selected countries including Malaysia as well as a free port-in service for seniors wishing to retain their old mobile number. Users can also opt to add a mobile security service to the plan for an extra $3 to block requests to malicious domains. No service, registration and termination fees will be charged.

The plan comes following TPG’s participation in the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s (IMDA) plan to increase digital adoption among seniors. By providing a cheap mobile plan targeted at older Singaporeans, TPG looks to compliment the regulator’s efforts to provide financial assistance to lower-income seniors who lack the necessary funds to purchase smartphones and mobile plans.

Seniors who qualify for IMDA’s “Mobile Access for Seniors” subsidised programme, TPG’s press release continues, will be receiving the add-on Mobile Security VAS for free and can apply to purchase heavily subsidised smartphones that start from SGD$20. “Through TPG’s Seniors plan, we hope to encourage more seniors to go digital fully and enjoy the wide spectrum of content and services at their fingertips,” adds CEO Tan.

Seniors can register for the “Seniors Go Digital” mobile plan online at tpgmobile.sg/seniors. They can also sign up in person at TPG’s Orchard Road outlet, Cheers Communication at Block 811 Hougang Central or Ezylink at Eastlink Mall in Tampines.
