Art for kids

The National Gallery Singapore is now bringing free home-based art activities and resources to keep your children engaged and occupied during the school holidays. New multimedia and hands-on activities, including interactive games, art-inspired storytelling video sessions, as well as artist masterclasses and art tutorials will be introduced weekly on Gallery Kids!, a dedicated website for families and kids about art.

Some of the amazing resources now available, with new ones added weekly, include the My Ink-credible Adventure Interactive Game, where children can explore abstract expressionism in an open and playful manner through this online game, with endless colour combinations of ink splashes, splatters and drops.

Inspired by the space of the same name at the Keppel Centre for Art Education (KCAE), this is a collaboration between National Gallery Singapore and abstract artist Yeo Shih Yun that encapsulates the latter’s decades-long love affair with the fusion of traditional and contemporary art mediums.

There are also the downloaded art activities, which are suitable for families with children aged three to 10. With an array of activities ranging from sketching portraits using simple lines to designing buildings using architectural features found in the Gallery, this hands-on experience will continue to engage and cultivate children’s interest in art.

The website also features art tutorials, storytelling sessions and more. Not only that, families can participate in craft projects inspired by five key artworks by Singaporean and South-east Asian artists. These works will also take centre stage in the Gallery’s upcoming #SmallBigDreamersAtHome, an online edition of the bi-annual family offering from June 1, to ignite children’s imagination towards art creation through play.
