SW1 Clinic has options for anti-ageing treatments that will help you preserve your skin’s youthfulness and face the coming year with confidence

SINGAPORE (Nov 11): You once thought you were young and invincible. Now, all of a sudden, you notice the fine lines around the eyes, mouth and places you thought would never crease.

The ageing process can be rapid as life catches up with us. In addition, factors such as job stress, rushing home to prepare the family dinner or meeting up with close friends for another late night out can speed up the process. Taking care of yourself is not top priority. Your daily mantra is “too little time, too much to do”. To reverse or control the damage, you slap on day and night creams that may or may not work.

One of the often-overlooked areas is the neck, where signs of ageing appear first. As it is one of the thinnest areas of the skin, it contains the least amount of age-preserving collagen. This collagen deficiency causes the skin to lose elasticity faster than the general areas of your face.

Apart from that, the neck also contains muscles known as platysma, which are connected to your upper jaw muscles. Your platysma muscles are subjected to constant strain with any form of facial expression; it also bears the burden of the jaw muscles. Even smiling and being happy can make your skin sag.

While most skincare products and aesthetic procedures still place emphasis on the face, some doctors are taking a holistic approach and include the care of the neck and not just the face.

The latest addition to SW1’s arsenal of skincare procedures is the Nefertiti Facelift, named after the ancient Egyptian queen who was known for her beauty and long slender neck, depicted in art pieces found after the mid-1300s BC.

The Nefertiti Facelift pays attention to the neck and jowls, and involves the injection of Botulinum toxin to the area to boost the neck and jawline. It gives the skin a non-invasive lift and tuck. The use of muscle relaxants such as Botulinum toxin eases the tension accrued by the platysma muscles, relieving them and halting the gravitational downward pull of the skin that causes sagging. “We understand that Botulinum toxin used in excess may ‘freeze’ facial expressions. Therefore, the treatment along the jawline is performed in controlled micro-doses to ensure full use of facial muscles,” explains Dr Low Chai Ling, founder and medical director of SW1 Clinic.

Another new-age and more holistic approach to battling the ravages of time comes in the form of Youth Savant, aptly named for its masterful and deep-diving approach to the sustenance of youth. Using an active ingredient, Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN), this procedure goes to the root of why we age — our DNA.

This tried-and-tested PDRN ingredient reacts with DNA threads in the skin to activate the “healing” effect, removing or repairing DNA threads that have suffered degradation with time and inciting the growth of brand-new skin tissue. A procedure that essentially works for all areas affected by wrinkling and sagging, the Youth Savant’s PDRN even doubles as a shield from UV damage from sun exposure and fast-tracks the healing of bruises and wounds.

These two aesthetic treatments will give you the extra confidence to face the challenges of 2020 as you go about your busy work-life routine.
