SINGAPORE (Apr 24): How to look good on camera

No matter how much you try to angle your computer, you can’t seem to get your look right for your video conference meeting. Fashion designer and filmmaker Tom Ford offers some sound advice we should all follow:
Step 1 Put your laptop up on a stack of books so the camera is slightly higher than your head. Then, point it down into your eyes.

Step 2 Take a tall lamp and set it next to the computer on the side of your face you feel is best. The lamp should be in line with and slightly behind the computer, so the light falls nicely on your preferred profile.

Step 3 Then put a piece of white paper or a white tablecloth on the table you are sitting at but make sure it can’t be seen in the frame. It will give you a bit of fill and bounce. Don’t forget the powder!

Fair trade gifts

We can’t meet our friends during this “circuit breaker” period. But we can give them gifts, like this one from Atelier Agape. This Singapore based, Fair Trade jewellery brand offers unique and beautiful pieces that you can have it personalise too. This Mother’s Day, the brand is offering a matching mother-child bracelet set and three necklaces — the debut collection is handcrafted by marginalised, independent artisans in Jaipur, India. These crafters are supported by a certified Fair Trade organisation that provides them with a fair wage, safe working conditions and enterprise building skills.

Caring for the vulnerable

Singapore-based design and manufacturing company IndustryPlus is introducing Industry +, a brand dedicated to contemporary design furniture and accessories. It will also donate 10% of its proceeds from Shallows vases to the Sayang Sayang Fund, started by the Community Foundation of Singapore to provide support for healthcare workers and vulnerable communities such as isolated seniors and low-income families who are impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The fund is looking to support vulnerable communities especially impacted by the virus outbreak — like the 7,000 children from low-income families who are now at risk from losing access to meals provided in schools with the implementation of homebased learning. Purchase details available by email at info@ industryplus.com.sg . Free delivery is offered within Singapore for all purchases of Shallows items.

Stay home

Brunello Cucinelli, known for their oh-so-comfortable cashmere sweaters, is inviting us to stay home and enjoy family time with their homewares collection. For the kitchen and dining table, objects are made of wood, steel and Murano glass. The dining table is a vision of beauty in fresh and light linen while ceramics exquisitely crafted by expert artisans. Who wants to leave the house with such beauty to enjoy?

From suits to medical suits

The Zegna Group has put their expertise in making well-tailored suits to medical suits. They are one of the many fashion brands parlaying their skills to step up the fight against the global Covid-19 crisis. Their aim is to produce 280,000 units — this will then be sent to health care workers in the various regions of Italy.

Up your cooking skills

What to do with all that extra hours freed up by less socialising? Cook up a storm with Samsung Colour Series Microwave Ovens, which feature healthy and convenient cooking functions to help you make crispier, tastier and healthier food. Stay home and eat healthy.

Online therapy

Nevermind that all stores are closed during this “circuit breaker” period. You can still shop online: For example, Onitsuka Tiger fans can shop for the latest launches such as Fabilac, Delegation Chunk and Mexico 66 Konbu. We love Fabilac which features improved cushioning properties and allows for better flexibility. Get yours from http://www.onitsukatiger.com/sg/en-sg/shop — first time customers will also enjoy 10% off their purchase while shipping is free on all orders till May 31.
