SINGAPORE (May 8): A burning tribute
When we first looked at these candles by Dolce&Gabbana we knew that there is no way we will burn them. These scented candles are made and hand painted by Sicilian artisans with each candle a story to tell. For example, the story of the “Sicilian heads” is an ancient and fascinating one — especially those of Caltagirone, a small town with ancient Greek and Arab influences and a production centre of pottery. The bright and vivid colours used here are a tribute to the many beauties of Sicily. Faces of women and men in ceramic are decorated with crowns, lemons, exotic prickly pears and delicate ornamental motifs.

Get bag to work
With “circuit breaker” measures easing, it will be a matter of time before we will be back at work. For that first day back, you will need a signature handbag and we are in love with the Guirlande de Cartier bag, which has eight facets cleanly cut into thick and supple calfskin featuring a golden frieze. The same attention to detail is given to the making of each bag as it does for the Maison’s great jewellery-making tradition.
Cooking for a cause
With no tourists in sight, the staff at Thai villa estate Samujana on Koh Samui have come together to help the locals living around the property. Recently the Samujana team partnered with the village chief Khun Vitaya to bring 150 meals of Thai ‘Moo/Kai Pad Krapow’ (rice with pork or chicken), as well as 200 bottles of water to disadvantaged people living in the villages of Plai Laem and Bophut, where many have lost their jobs and are going hungry. The plan is to increase this to 250 meals that they will serve to locals at least three times a week.
