SINGAPORE (Aug 12): Celebrate National Day with items inspired by all things local.
200 years in the making
Scottish stationery expert Collins Debden has partnered Singapore Airlines to launch the SIA Batik Journal (main image). Inspired by the iconic batik design on the sarong worn by the female crew, the design is imprinted on the end-paper of the notebook. This collaboration is significant as both Singapore and Collins Debden are celebrating their 200th anniversary this year. Priced at $29, the limited-edition SIA Batik Journal By Collins can be purchased in-flight on SIA flights and at SIA’s online store, KrisShop (www.krisshopair.com).
Purple reign
Lee Hwa Jewellery, a patron of the National Museum of Singapore, has launched a special Purple Gold bicentennial collection. The jewellery designs are part of the national museum’s bicentennial exhibition, An Old New World: From the East Indies to the Founding of Singapore, 1600s–1819. Lee Hwa Jewellery’s designers came up with two earring designs based on a pair of terrestrial and celestial globes made at the turn of the 19th century by J & W Cary, the then-prominent globe maker. The Purple Gold bicentennial collection is available at the National Museum of Singapore and all Lee Hwa Jewellery boutiques.

Through the eyes of Sam Lo
G-Shock has created a uniquely Singapore timepiece to celebrate the nation’s 54th birthday. The G-Shock x SKL0 is a special watch that embraces G-Shock’s DNA, which is to work with partners who are movers and shakers in the world of music, fashion, sports and the arts. Sam Lo, also known as SKL0 or the Sticker Lady, designed an all-black watch using the GX-56BB model. It features a custom-designed band in vivid colours to showcase Singapore’s melting pot of cultures. Other design elements are lightning bolts, camera lenses, dollar coins and lucky coins. They symbolise the modern-day cultural elements that Sam Lo has observed to be a constant in this city state’s never-ending pursuit of excellence. Limited to 300 pieces, the watch is housed in a special box that features the title of the National Day song, We Are Singapore. The timepiece costs $299 and is available at all G-Shock boutiques (except IMM).
