The ilLido Group presents the seventh addition to its growing list of dining establishments: Amò, a smartcasual Italian eatery and bar named after the colloquial term of endearment used across Italy and the world — “amore” (Italian for “love”). Housed in what was once a warehouse at 33 Hong Kong Street, the latest concept is the brainchild of Beppe De Vito, the group’s founder and restaurateur- chef, and comes after two years of extensive planning, research and training.

Combining Italian traditions with contemporary innovation, the restaurant’s menu is a feast of reimagined classics, with the majority of ingredients made in-house by hand. Those who intend to sample multiple dishes would do well to come hungry with friends to share your antipasti, big plates and pizzas, as the portions are as hearty as the beverage list’s range of all-Italian wines, beers and cocktails. The super- sized Spaghettoni with Boston Lobster and Tarragon ($78) is one such example, starring a crustacean so massive that it completely engulfs the heap of spaghettoni, a thicker version of spaghetti, on which it sits.

Also look forward to the seasonal and rare-in-Singapore produce found in Zucchini Flowers with Mortadella, Pistachio and Lemon Honey ($26), a delicate arrangement of courgette blossoms stuffed with creamy cured pork paste. Another ingenious creation is the Amò Signature Pizza — Bone Marrow, Wild Garlic Pesto and Anchovy Salsa Verde ($29), whose chewy raised outer crust comes with a slight exterior crunch. All pizzas are traditionally wood-fired for about four minutes and sliced prior to topping to ensure an even distribution of ingredients.
