Hublot wins prestigious design award A jury of 40 professors, journalists and independent designers looked at 5,500 creations by participants from 54 countries and awarded the coveted The Red Dot Award, Product Design: Best of the Best 2017 accolade to the Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 Magic Gold watch.
The timepiece is made of Magic Gold, the world’s first scratch-resistant gold. It was developed and patented by Hublot with EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne).
The watch’s heartbeat is based on the HUB1201 manufacture movement, which has 223 parts. It has two parallel barrels with a rack-driven power reserve indication system, two racks sliding along the nine and three o’clock axis, a double power reserve display, and Meccano-inspired architecture. Mecanno is an educational construction toy that uses parts such as gears, nuts and bolts, and screws to build planes and cars, for example.
The Red Dot prize acknowledges the immense work that went into the development of the Meca-10 Magic Gold watch, which features the best of what Hublot has to offer in high-quality watchmaking, technique, innovation and aesthetics.
The Red Dot Award is organised by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. Winning a Red Dot Award is akin to winning an Oscar in the world of movies.
Design game
To tap American clothing style, Coach turned to Gary Baseman. The contemporary artist designs toys and is perhaps better known for designing Cranium, a board game that tests your grey matter. For Coach’s recent collection for men, he drew from cinematic references and the American landscape.
1966 Collection welcomes a legend
The world time complication now features in the most stylish collection of urban watches by Girard- Perregaux, with the introduction of the legendary WW.TC model in the 1966 Collection. Its horological complication enables instant readings of the time in 24 cities around the world, but the timepiece remains amazingly user-friendly.
A manufacture automatic movement is fitted with an additional module developed in-house, featuring a 46-hour power reserve. The case is topped by a slim, delicately polished bezel framing a generous opaline dial, protected by a sapphire crystal glass and swept over by the line’s signature “leaf-type” hands.
Mirror, mirror
The FRED Mirror does so much more than let you check your appearance. The world’s first smart luxury mirror was designed with high-tech homes of the future in mind. You can watch videos, listen to music and get your news updates from the mirror while getting ready for work. The product is waterproof, does not mist up and has air purifying features built into it.

Take it to the next level
The Japanese word “tsugi”, which means “next”, is an apt name for Puma’s new collection of shoes that is part of the Sport style Running footwear design. The one to watch is the Tsugi Shinsei, or “Reborn”. It features a unique lacing technique: If you pull the lacing along the lateral and medial sides of the foot, you are instantly assured of a comfortable fit.
