SINGAPORE (Feb 19): Layering is key when it comes to fall/winter, so take your sartorial cues from these fashion houses.
Ermenegildo Zegna
Designer Alessandro Sartori created a modular wardrobe that seamlessly fuses sports and tailoring, resulting in a silhouette that is sharp yet soft. The whole look is defined by the geometric necklines with carved and curved lapels and a unique 1½ breasted construction for jackets and coats. This is actually a design that is halfway between the single- and double-breasted designs. Neckties make a comeback, but are worn like a double-knot scarf.
In keeping with the morphing of categories, “XXX”, as a symbol of the manual craft of Ermenegildo Zegna Couture, is used extensively as a jacquard or a logo on clothing and accessories such as technical leather bags, backpacks and shoes, while PELLE TESSUTATM — the exclusive Zegna woven -leather fabric — comes for the first time in herringbone patterns on briefcases and bags.
Dolce & Gabbana
At the Dolce & Gabbana show, #DGMillennials models hit the runway. In total, 110 looks were created for male millennials. Presented at the iconic Rinascente, Italy’s most elegant departmental store with over 150 years of history, the show demonstrated D&G’s sartorial tradition. The collection on display exuded classic, timeless elegance and a contemporary twist. Highlights included luxurious tailored scarves and the new slip-on “graffiti” sneakers.
Marni
Designers at Italian fashion label Marni searched all over the world for inspiration and discovered the sandals of the Maasai Mara tribe as well as the blankets they use to wrap themselves when winters are harsh. The Marni man is swathed in jumpers, anoraks, knitted caps and neckties. Fabrics are chosen from the exotic east such as Chinese brocades, Indian ikats and, further afield, African stripes and English tweeds. The entire collection both surprises and enthrals us.
