Taste the wonders of coffee from all around the world at Bacha Coffee in ION Orchard

The coffee culture in Singapore is a huge one, with many people needing their daily dose of caffeine and coffee aficionados brewing their cups at home. From the home-favourite Nanyang coffee to arabica and robusta coffee from elsewhere, Singapore is definitely a country that welcomes coffee from all over the world.

Over at Bacha Coffee’s coffee room in ION Orchard, that is what you can enjoy — coffee from all around the world. The story of Bacha Coffee begins in Marrakech in 1910, when the spectacular Dar el Bacha palace, which means “house of the Pasha”, reunited the greatest cultural and political minds of the century over glittering pots of “coffee of Arabia”, or Arabica, as it is known today.

After a 60-year pause, Bacha Coffee reopened in 2019 and quickly chose Singapore to be its first expansion outside of Marrakech. Famed for its collection of over 200 single-origin 100% Arabica coffee beans from 33 of the most consistent and well-reputed producing countries around the world, as well as fine flavoured and blended coffees, Bacha Coffee has seen its demand in Singapore grow tremendously despite opening just months before the Covid-19 pandemic in September 2019.

Today, Bacha Coffee, a V3 Gourmet brand, has seven international touch points, including a recent opening in Paris. V3 Gourmet is run by long-time business partners Ron Sim and Taha Bouqdib, who also brought the famous TWG Tea to Singapore.

The Bacha Coffee brand promises consumers the luxury of enjoying fine coffees in a convenient and accessible way, especially for the new generation of coffee lovers.

While being served your coffee with luxurious addons, enjoy and marvel at the exquisite interior of the coffee room that takes inspiration from the architecture and interiors of the Dar el Bacha palace, transposing the hallmarks of historic Marrakech to an evocative contemporary destination.

Gleaming ultra-modern chrome displays are beautifully blended with geometric-patterned latticework, black-and-white marble floors, and brass chandeliers, while carved natural wood shelving and large square canisters in Bacha Coffee’s signature saffron lining the walls serve to house the coffee room’s extensive list of freshly roasted coffees.

From just $10 onwards, take your pick from the 200 coffees available — served hot or iced, in their in-house gooseneck coffee pots. Enjoy a full “coffee service”, where your coffee comes with a side of raw sugar, grounded vanilla beans and a pot of fresh vanilla bean Chantilly cream. Also expect a full menu of food, coffee desserts and some of Bacha Coffee’s famous croissants to pair with your drink.

If you can’t decide on which coffee to enjoy, Bacha Coffee masters are on hand to assist you — for both dine-in and for purchasing packaged coffee for a taste of Bacha at home. With such a plethora of choices and the luxurious taste and packaging, Bacha’s packaged coffees and single-serve coffee bags make for great gifts.

Options had the opportunity to enjoy several different coffees from around the world at Bacha Coffee with a special coffee tasting flight. While this is not offered on the menu, the coffee masters will gladly recommend something for you.

The coffee tasting started with coffee from Yunnan, China. While China is not particularly popular for its coffee, the Guizhou Plateau Coffee is grown alongside the pu’er tea plantations that China is most famous for. I really enjoyed the coffee’s pleasant acidity and lingering and rich flavours that sport notes of grapefruit, nuts with an earthy sensation. This was also my favourite coffee to pair with grounded vanilla beans.

Next up, the Indonesian Java Blue Coffee is carefully nurtured at altitudes of up to 1,500m and hand-selected to create this brew. This coffee is full-bodied with an earthy character and fruity notes.

The Pang Khon Coffee originating from Chiang Rai, Thailand, is another coffee cultivated at high altitudes. The beans are hand-harvested from mid-November until mid-March. This mildly citrusy coffee has a light aroma and carries notes of chocolate, nuts with a caramel finish. This was my favourite coffee to have on its own.

For those seeking a strong brew, try the Monsoon Secret Coffee from Cochin, India. A special natural/dry processing method is used for this coffee, giving it a rather distinct and strong character. This dry and strong coffee has a lingering savoury, herbal and umami flavour with notes of biscuit, lime and toast. This was my favourite with the vanilla bean Chantilly cream.

And last but not least, we arrived in Nuwakot, Nepal, to try the Mount Everest Coffee that has been cultivated at the foothills of the mountain. The unique climate gives the coffee a depth and diversity of flavours. This cup has a strong smoky aroma, but is rather light and delicate to the taste, with hints of crème brûlée and burnt caramel.
