Lightness is the recurring theme in Hermès home accessories featured at the Milan Design Week 2022. Inspirations for shapes and colours are drawn from unexpected sources. This includes the shape of water towers that are made light despite their proportions and wood covered with translucent coloured paper to radiate light.
Creators at Hermès turn the spotlight on textiles with five creations forming this fabric for lightness platform. For this, cashmere is the fabric of choice as it forms the design of ethereal plaids; squares woven and dyed by hand to make a great patchwork of shimmering colours; geometric shapes assembled using a linking technique to evoke stained-glass windows; a large, quilted bed cover that brings colours, patchwork and traditional quilting technique into dialogue.
Objects, porcelain and furniture are cut and folded into leather sheets with hand-painted decoration. Decorative centrepieces and porcelain plates reflect sunlight while a canework seat displays delicacy as it does strength. The lightness of lines produces timeless style, as these creations demonstrate.
