A study led by Kaitlin Woolley from Cornell University and Ayelet Fishbach from the University of Chicago reveals that participants believe both enjoyment and importance are key factors in keeping or abandoning their resolutions.
The researchers eventually concluded that it was predominantly the enjoyment factor that mattered. If participants were reaping immediate benefits from their new habits, they were more likely to stick to them.
