Fritz Hansen invites us to step out of the ordinary and live in a world filled with unique beauty
SINGAPORE (Apr 22): At the recently concluded furniture fair Salone Del Mobile Milano 2019 (April 9 to 14), Fritz Hansen unveiled a masterbrand strategy as it enters an exciting chapter. The strategy involves bringing its furniture, lighting and interior accessories under one umbrella. The old name of Republic of Fritz Hansen and Lightyears will now be known as simply Fritz Hansen.

The new direction for the Danish brand is to put the spotlight on its past and traditions as well as chart its future to showcase its full product portfolio. Fritz Hansen has also introduced Room for Imagination, a new trade fair concept and image campaign that focuses on bolder, colourful designs, as the brand sets out to improve lives through the spaces that we live in.
One of the lighting accessories that has caught our attention is “Centres of Rotation” — an exploration of the duality of two illuminated objects so closely related, despite their obvious differences, brought together in a perfectly balanced relationship.
“Centres of Rotation” consists of two light elements, both hung from the ceiling
“Centres of Rotation” consists of two light elements, both hung from the ceiling. A disc made from pure beeswax is illuminated from the back, rendering it transparent and making it glow when viewed from the front.
The disc is lit by LED lights and hung from thin steel threads that also serve as the electrical cord. This genius design works with a bent brass rod hung from the ceiling in an upright position. Using counterweights, the brass bar holds a small folded paper lampshade, creating a floating floor lamp. The lamp is hung from the ceiling with thin steel threads, which again serve as electrical cords.
A closer look at the lamp begs the question, “Why does it float, and how is it powered?” Truly ingenious design from Fritz Hansen.
