Local charity Food from the Heart (FFTH) hosted its sixth annual Charity Golf Tournament on Sept 15 at the Singapore Island Country Club (SICC). The event seamlessly blended the love of golf with the spirit of giving, creating a unique lifestyle experience that attracted 144 passionate golf enthusiasts.

The day started with a lunch to fuel the participants before they embarked on an exciting golfing journey on The New Course. Among the participants was the Speaker of Parliament, Seah Kian Peng, who relished a few hours of friendly competition at this philanthropic tournament.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, the SICC Grand Ballroom came alive with approximately 155 distinguished guests who gathered for an exquisite evening.

The evening featured a live jazz performance by Nick Zavior, hailed as Asia’s newest vocal sensation, adding a touch of elegance to the affair.

The night also included the presentation of tournament prizes and an exhilarating lucky draw, making it an event not just about golf but also about celebrating a vibrant and generous lifestyle.

Robin C Lee, CEO of FFTH, expressed his appreciation for the support of two local businesses that stepped up as major sponsors for this year’s event. Lee says: “The Charity Golf Tournament holds a special place in our hearts as it helps us raise vital funds and awareness within the business community. This support ensures we can continue our mission of providing fresh, nutritious food to those in need. We are thrilled to welcome back NTUC FairPrice Foundation as a returning Eagle Sponsor and extend our heartfelt thanks to the new Eagle Sponsor, LHN Group, for their unwavering support through employee volunteering, food donations and monetary contributions.”

Last year, FFTH provided assistance to nearly 14,000 low-income families, distributing over 131,000 food packs through initiatives like the Community Food Pack (CFP) and School Goodie Bag (SGB) programmes.

This year, a novel “Beat the CEO” challenge was introduced, with over 100 golfers donating at least $100 each to challenge Lee himself at hole M8. The challenge raised more than $11,000. The event raised over $289,000, underscoring the community’s commitment to supporting the less fortunate and reflecting a lifestyle that values giving back.

In a year marked by high inflation and rising food prices, FFTH remained a steadfast source of food support, distributing $7.23 million worth of food to over 59,300 beneficiaries through its core food support programmes: CFP, SGB, Bread Run, Project Belanja! and Market Place.

The event offered various flight packages for groups of four, starting at $5,000, including pre-golf lunch and post-golf dinner at the elegant SICC Grand Ballroom. A total of 36 golf flights were sold, and all cash donations, including those for the “Beat the CEO” challenge, were eligible for an impressive 250% tax deduction.

Every $100 donation made during the event was equivalent to providing one CFP and one SGB. The CFP, valued at $40, included non-perishable food items, eggs, root vegetables and fruits, while the SGB, valued at $60, offered essential nutrients for growing children and young families, featuring at least 15 healthier-choice food options. This initiative exemplifies the lifestyle of compassion and community support that FFTH champions in Singapore.
