FOOD

Pizza and Pilsner Night

Andaz Singapore

More is more when it comes to pizza and beer. From 6pm to 8pm every Tuesday, Alley on 25 at Andaz Singapore presents an evening of unlimited pizzas and Andaz Pilsners, brewed exclusively by local microbrewery Trouble Brewing.

With more than 12 years of experience in Italian cuisine, Chef de Cuisine Raymond Chan doles out handstretched pizzas from recipes originating from southern Italy.

For $39++, savour a variety of five delicious pizzas including the Margherita — chock-full of Roma tomatoes, chunks of buffalo mozzarella and basil leaves, grown in the restaurant’s herb garden. Made fresh-to-order, enjoy chewy, crispy crust made from high-grade Italian flour and with 24 hours of dough proofing.

The Italian staples are cooked in Alley on 25’s own green Beech Oven, adapted with bricks and baking stones to cook the pizzas evenly at 300 degrees Celsius. Pairing perfectly with the pizzas are the free-flowing Andaz Pilsners made with Riwaka Hops for a refreshing and sweet floral finish.

Don’t forget to save room for the desserts like the Berry Tiramisu or Flowy Rose Cake, each available at $10.

ARTS

Textures: The Bottled City

March 26 – April 25

Textures: A Weekend with Words celebrates Singapore literature a little differently this year. The fourth edition of Textures will take on the form of a mobile installation and travelling library, visiting communities around the island.

Beginning at The Arts House, The Bottled City will travel to the communities of Jurong, Yishun, Toa Payoh and Lengkok Bahru. Visitors are invited to discover and learn more about the scenes and landscapes that populate the books, miniatures, papercut sculptures, terrariums and cross stitching.

Keep a look out for these beautiful and intricately designed papercut sculptures by artist Ashley Yeo. Inspired by the shifting dualities of the protagonist twins in JY Yang’s Tensorate fantasy series, readers will be able to discover the book plates which are inserted in the books.

Murder mystery fans can look forward to reading and solving crime themselves with the public beta launch of a unique online interactive story. In a special commission of graphic novelist and artist Troy Chin, A Red Sky at Dawn is set in 1941 Singapore: A dead body is found at the former courthouse (now The Arts House) with five witnesses who may be suspects. Experience a dynamically adaptive mystery determined not only by the choices you make, but also by changes over time. The web application built, penned and drawn by Chin can be experienced on both desktop and mobile devices.

See: The Dame dazzles

Cake lovers will be able to admire a cake shop miniature, designed by Kin’s Miniatures. Her creation is inspired by Yeoh Jo-Ann’s Impractical Uses of Cake, featuring a mini cake shop that sells the delicious objects of desire for the characters in Yeoh’s novel.

For those who prefer local drinks and desserts, you can feast your eyes on mini collectibles like kopi-o cups, ang ku kueh and chendol. These food miniatures highlight Singapore Siu Dai 3: The SG Conversation by Felix Cheong, Ang Ku Kueh Girl & Friends: The Blur Sotong by Wang ShiJia and Afternoon Tea at Raffles Hotel by Fleur Vella Chang.

“Textures has always been about presenting Singlit in different ways to find new audiences. With the current restrictions to performances as well as the ongoing renovations of the House, a physical and virtual installation seemed the best way to keep the spirit of the festival alive while reaching as many people as possible,” says Lisa Lip, senior manager of programmes and producer for Textures.
