Comedy at Sea with Kumar
World Dream
Singapore’s most famous drag queen Kumar, returns to the stage and the sea with a onenight-only show.
Happening Jan 31, be prepared for an endless night of bold jokes and a whole lot of glam and glitter. This will be the comedian’s first live comedy show following the pandemic — Comedy at Sea with Kumar is part of the three-night Escapade Cruise onboard the World Dream, departing on Jan 31.

CosmicWander: Expedition
Singapore Art Museum
Part of the Singapore Art Week 2021, CosmicWander: Expedition is a work-in-progress presentation of Choy Ka Fai’s ongoing research into the metaphysics of the human body.
Having ventured into the region in search of spectacular trance experiences, the Berlin-based Singaporean artist has met over 50 shamans and filmed extraordinary dance rituals, from the wilderness of Siberia to the mythological practices in Java.
The exhibition is an investigation into the human desire for transcendence, through exploring shamanic dance cultures in Asia, taking the body as a conceptual device for explorations into “post-human” choreographic ideas and alternative states of consciousness. Set up as an experiential installation, it features the artist’s perspective on humanity’s attempt to connect, question and interact with different states of reality.
Stories and images composed from his encounters with “altered states” are weaved with the artist’s speculations, resulting in a choreographic sequence of moving images, text and spectacle, inspired by practices observed in Singapore, Indonesia, Siberia, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Choy presents his project in three parts — an exhibition comprising video installations, a costume and multimedia performance as well as a lecture.
CosmicWander: Expedition runs from Jan 16 to Feb 21 at Tanjong Pagar Distripark. Programmes will be livestreamed on Singapore Art Museum’s (SAM) Facebook and YouTube channels and a virtual gallery of the exhibition with excerpts from the video works will be available online on SAM’s website from end-January.
ARTWALK Little India 2021
Lasalle College of the Arts
Jointly organised by Lasalle College of the Arts and Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the popular multi-disciplinary arts festival ARTWALK Little India 2021 returns this year in a hybrid format for the first time. The public arts festival, held in conjunction with Singapore Arts Week, will celebrate the rich heritage of the Little India precinct from Jan 22 to Feb 6.
Visitors can expect performances, interactive workshops and a virtual walk that will take them through new murals and places of interest. Highlights of the event include the Jigri Yaar Bhangra, which commemorates its 35th year with a special performance.
Filmed around Little India, viewers will witness the powerful energy of this dance through their screens when they tune in via Facebook. You could also get active from home with Bollywood Zumba with Theeya, a live Zoom class that promises an intense workout to popular Bollywood tunes.
Meanwhile, the Spiced Up Motifs workshop shows children how to make stencils out of cooking spices. Those who prefer to stretch their legs outdoors can take a walk to view six new artworks around Little India, including a community wall along Upper Dickson Road by artist Khairulddin Wahab.
Those tuning in from the web can also hop on a Monster Day Tour, which will take audiences on a virtual walk to discover the many murals and places of interest in the precinct.
This year also sees ARTWALK’s first international collaboration between Indian artist Bhajju Shyam, a recipient of the Padma Shri (one of India’s highest civilian awards), and Singaporean visual artist Sam Lo. The collaboration is brought together by the St+art India Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in India that works on public art projects.
