Tulips on show
Gardens by the Bay
Tulipmania makes its return to the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay with a focus on the wild tulips of Kazakhstan.
At this year’s showcase called Tulipmania — Its Wild Origins, now on till Nov 14, visitors can imagine themselves following in the footsteps of Kazakh nomadic tribes which once traipsed across the foothills of Tien Shan, the great mountain system of Central Asia, and the place where tulips were believed to have first appeared.
Other highlights include a depiction of a bazaar that represents Kazakhstan’s role as a trading hub and cultural melting-pot along the Silk Route, as well as towers and gates inspired by Timurid dynasty architecture, featuring blue and turquoise geometric patterns that symbolise clear Kazakhstan skies and waters. There’s even a 4m-tall replica of a yurt on loan from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Singapore.
For the first time, there will be an online component where visitors can watch videos of Tulipmania from the comfort of their homes on Gardens by the Bay’s Facebook page and website.

Whisky is fashion
Chivas
Scotch whisky label Chivas teams up with French couturier Balmain to create two limited-edition designs for its Chivas VX Scotch blends that were aged 15 years in French cognac casks.
Developed by Chivas in partnership with Balmain creative director, Olivier Rousteing, the Balmain x Chivas XV collection brings a modern twist to Scotch by blending the spirit of luxury French fashion with an icon of luxury Scotch whisky.
Drop 1, an extremely limited and individually numbered gold bottle (currently not for sale), is adorned with metallic armour and chains in a nod to Balmain’s signature runway pieces, whilst Drop 2 (released in December) brings to life Balmain’s recognisable silhouette, through a symmetrical design of chains and belts directly inspired by the house’s recent collections.
Pre-order of Balmain x Chivas XV Drop 2 will retail exclusively at $170. Register your interest at www.chivas.com/en-SG.
