Daniel Craig’s last hurrah

No Time To Die

Enjoy 163 minutes of all the Daniel Craig you can handle in the latest Bond instalment, No Time To Die, when it hits cinemas next week. Said to be the film with the longest run time in the franchise’s history, No Time to Die will be Craig’s final outing as Agent 007.

Starring the likes of Ralph Fiennes, Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch and Léa Seydoux, the movie begins with Bond having left active service and enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace however is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help to rescue a kidnapped scientist. The search turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

As with all Bond films, expect a glorious showcase of some of the world’s priciest brands such as Omega’s new Seamaster Diver 300M 007 edition, Aston Martin, Haute Joaillerie by Chopard and Land Rover’s sturdy Range Rover Sport SVR.

Music to our ears

Micapella

Homegrown acapella group Micapella — made up of Calin Wong, Juni Goh, Peter Huang, Eugene Yip, Goh Mingwei and Tay Kexin — wants to spread cheer at their upcoming concert entitled Love, centered around the idea of love letters.

After a half-year postponement, the sextet is now ready to take the stage to perform popular covers including K-pop hits from BTS and Blackpink, original songs in Mandarin and English, as well as an exclusive preview of their first single from their upcoming Extended Play (EP) release.

The vocal group is set to perform their biggest live concert to date on a 360-degree stage in Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands with four shows on Oct 1 (6.30pm and 9pm) and Oct 2 (5pm and 8pm). Organised by Base Entertainment Asia, concert tickets start from $58 and can be purchased from Marina Bay Sands, www.sistic.com.sg or via 6688 8826. Pre-event testing is required for those not vaccinated.

Ice cream is never a guilty treat

Softhaus

Janice Wong, known for her wild and whimsical desserts that are also works of art, has launched a new happy place where there is an ice cream for everyone. Softhaus at Great World is not just any ice cream parlour, it is a multi-sensory experience driven by the idea of togetherness.

You can expect only the best and quality treats here, anchored by high quality, locally sourced and sustainable ingredients to produce its 16 ice cream flavours like the tangy Mango Banana Passionfruit, sugar-free Chocolate Sorbet and Pear Thyme Honey Eucalyptus, which is a wonderfully complex botanical delight. To cater to vegans, diabetics and the sugar-phobic, Wong has also included several options made of plant-based milk and sugar substitutes in its offerings.

The same attention to detail extends to its 20 colourful and delicious toppings like freshly baked macarons, crunchy popcorn and handmade chocolates. Once you have selected your choice of ice cream and toppings, you can opt to have your custom creation in a waffle cone, cup or the way most Singaporeans traditionally like it — sandwiched between fluffy rainbow coloured bread.

We had the chance to sample some ice cream here, and some must-try flavours include the Popcorn Caramel Sea Salt and Milk Tea for something milky and flavourful, while the Yuzu Sorbet and the Coconut Lime were the perfect light and refreshing treat on a hot day. Meanwhile, some cool toppings to try out include Iced Gem Biscuits, fluffy and colourful marshmallows and Janice Wong’s famous Macarons.

Apart from keeping up with times and offering more inclusive selections, Softhaus has embraced technology by incorporating fun digital motion and animation into its food retail experience. The brand has also developed its own mobile check-out page to keep the lines moving in a more seamless manner. Besides bringing new confectionery concepts to the market, Janice Wong Singapore will also continue to integrate new food technologies and innovations in its product offerings, through a partnership with Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia.
