Smoke & Mirrors

If you are in the city and looking for the perfect place to unwind while watching the sun set, head to Smoke & Mirrors at National Gallery Singapore to enjoy its latest Happy Hour menu featuring cocktails at only $12+++ from 3pm, plus champagne and oysters from $68++ on weekends putting a spotlight on Champagne Besserat de Bellefon. Salut!

Drinks that honour past and present
Atlas

Atlas wants to give its customers a “sense of place” with an all-new cocktail menu that explores the lively spirit and energy of European Art Deco architecture, as well as shared connections between past and present.

Divided into seven chapters, there are several new libations inspired by famous landmarks such as shopping enclave La Samaritaine which gave birth to Pont Neuf Daisy ($25), a refreshing cognac-based cocktail infused with blue cheese and calvados made with apples from Normandy, as well as grappa, plum, elderflower and fresh lemon juice.

The Art Deco architecture of Parkview Square itself also inspired Vanda Mist ($12), a bittersweet, creamy no-alcohol mocktail with fresh grapefruit, almond syrup, salt, cinnamon and cream.

Known for its gin-based libations, Atlas will also be introducing the Bartender’s Choice G&T (from $24) to showcase a gin of their choice from the bar’s famous Gin Tower, and will rotate the labels regularly. The menu also includes the keystone Atlas classics such as the Atlas Martini ($25), Orange Blossom Martini ($28) and the Atlas Espresso Martini ($24). Guests can also enjoy a flight of these classics with ‘An Atlas Suite’ ($38) featuring a trio of petite martinis.

EAT
Nordic team time

Raffles Hotel Singapore

Take an armchair visit to Norway and indulge in some of its unique coastal culinary traditions over afternoon tea at The Grand Lobby in Raffles Hotel Singapore.

Exclusively available from now till Mar 6, The Oslo Afternoon Tea experience ($88++ per person) features curated sandwiches inspired by the Norwegian coast such as with Avocado Hash with Smoked Salmon and Semi-Boiled Quail Egg, and traditional pickled herring Rollmops with Beetroot and Horseradish Cream.

For sweets, executive pastry chef Tai Chien Lin has recreated quintessential Norwegian treats like Fyrstekake (a rich Norwegian cardamom and almond tart), Trollkrem creamy lingonberry mousse, Skillingsboller cinnamon buns and Kransekake traditional almond cookies.

The tea set also includes scones with jam and clotted cream, plus your choice of Mariage Frères loose tea leaves or Raffles Custom Blended Coffee Beans. For reservations, call 6412-1816 or email at singapore@raffles.com.

The original cruffin makers from San Francisco, Mr Holmes Bakehouse have rolled out a new menu of playful bakes — featuring cruffins, croissants, danishes, buns, cookies, muffins and sandwiches — promising inventive flavours both sweet and savoury.

Among the new flavours, our favourites include the first-ever savoury Sundried Tomato and Bacon Jam Cruffin ($7.50) — that comes with crispy cheesy skirts and an alternated filling of sundried tomato cream cheese and bacon jam — and Everything Donut ($5.80) piped with chive and caper cream cheese, glazed with spicy sriracha honey and topped with coat of housemade Everything seasoning.

For the sweet-toothed, we highly recommend the Speculoos Donut ($5.80) filled with spiced caramel cream incorporated from Biscoff spread and garnished with a Biscoff cookie, Irish Cream Cruffin ($6.50) piped with Irish breakfast cream lifted with gentle hints of coffee and crunch of cacao nibs and the ultra-crispy twice-baked Pistachio and Mixed Berry Croissant ($6.50), slathered with pistachio frangipane and tart berry jam.

For a sampling of your faves, order the Monthly Box of Six (from $35) featuring a collection of three cruffins and three donuts with a monthly switch of weekend exclusives. Mr Holmes Bakehouse new menu is now available for dine-in or takeaway daily from 8am to 8pm at Pacific Plaza or mrholmesbakehouse.sg

SEE
Virtual face mask exhibition

Asian Civilisations Museum

If there is one thing a pandemic has done to unite designers from all over the world, it is the creative ways in which they have designed face masks whether for consumption or art. And now, we get the opportunity to view some of these unique creations in a special online showcase titled Clothing the Pandemic: A Virtual Exhibition of Covid-19 Face Masks from Around the World.

Now on at www.clothingthepandemic.museum till the end of December, the showcase will feature six commissioned masks by internationally-recognised fashion designers such as Paris-based Singaporean designer Andrew Gn, Jason Wu, Raymond Wong and Rahul Mishra. Organised by the International Committee for the Museums and Collections of Costume, Fashion and Textiles, this virtual exhibition is an international collaboration among numerous museum curators who have collected face masks for their institutions to document the material culture of the pandemic during 2020 and 2021.
