Just how much tech can one load into a watch without it bursting at the seams? Well, Casio has been doing just that for ages with the Edifice, a collection distinguished by solar-powered longevity, Bluetooth-enabled connectivity, and multi-purpose functionality, all wrapped up in a sleek, sporty package designed to take you from the weekend to the work week.

The new Casio Edifice ECB-900YDB does all of the above and then some. Conceived with inspiration from the Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 Team, of which the collection is official team partner, the latest Edifice models is enhanced with both motor sports-inspired styling and timekeeping capabilities.

Like all Edifice watches, the ECB-900YDB features a stepped dial embellished with highly prominent applied indexes and sub-dial markers, which accords a three-dimensional look for improved legibility. Here, the chronograph is enhanced with Formula One-style accents. The stopwatch is accurate to 1/1,000th of a second, and registers up to 200 lap times while showing the average speed, indicated via a speed meter-style indicator at four o’clock. Elsewhere, the Bluetooth power reserve is shown via a fuel gauge-style indicator, while a bezel with tachymeter scale – de rigueur for race-inspired watches – frames the dynamic analogue-digital dial.

Speaking of Bluetooth, the ECB-900YDB can be connected to the smartphone via the Edifice Connected app. From there, one is able to control the watch’s myriad features from the aforementioned stopwatch function, to activating alarms and the precise world time display by choosing from 300 countries.

Of course, one doesn’t need to be a fan of Formula One or the Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 Team to appreciate the ECB-900YDB. Those partial to the Edifice collection would already be familiar with the watches’ testosterone-charged, smart-casual versatility. Measuring 51.5mm by 48mm, the ECB-900YDB is not dainty watch by any means – and certainly not meant for those looking for a quiet dress watch. In spite of refinement afforded by the polished steel case and bracelet, the watch WILL dominate the wrist. Coupled with the motorsports-inspired accents, the ECB-900YDB looks every bit the imposing athletic and teched-up modern wrist statement that all Edifice watches have come to embody.
