(Oct 4): A year ago, NOMOS partnered The Hour Glass to introduce the special edition NOMOS Red Dot worldtimer. Although it was priced at a substantial S$8,560, the model went on to fare pretty well amongst collectors. Well enough that the two brands have decided to partner for a second edition.
NOMOS CEO Uwe Ahrendt was effusive in his praise of the collaboration when he said: “We are delighted that our partnership with The Hour Glass is going so well. It’s been a great honour to team up with The Hour Glass for a second time, this time release two beautiful limited-edition versions of our most iconic model.”
The said model is the Tangente, one of NOMOS’ most popular collections. The award-winning Tangente is fitted with the brand’s first in-house calibre, the manual-winding Alpha, which is also used in the Ludwig, Tetra, Orion and Club collections.
It comes with a stop-seconds function and offers a power reserve of 43 hours. And as typical of German watchmaking, the calibre also features a three-quarter baseplate and Glashütte ribbing, along with the signature NOMOS perlage. All this is visible via the transparent caseback.
Like the first ‘Red Dot’, this year’s version comes in two colours. There’s a choice of either a salmon or midnight blue dial, with matching straps. In reference to the model name, a little red dot is placed at six o’clock beneath the small seconds sub-dial.
The overall vibe is entirely in keeping with NOMOS’ clean, Bauhaus-inspired aesthetic—a minimalist look that fans have come to love. Both the salmon and midnight blue versions are easy to pair with most outfits, although the look is more casual than formal.
We think most collectors would gun for the salmon version (perhaps to match their ‘Red Dot’ v.1?) but our preference is the midnight blue one, which we feel is slightly more versatile (and also, that blue is just mesmerising). At S$3,200, this year’s version is priced significantly lower than last year’s (granted, that was a worldtimer) so we’d expect it to do well too.
Each version is limited to 100 pieces and you can get them at selected The Hour Glass and Watches of Switzerland boutiques in Singapore. Alternatively, order them on the online pop-up store at nomosreddot.thehourglass.com
