Watching the National Day Parade? Keep in time with the show with these watches, they are not only beautiful to look at but have movements that will astound you

Red and proud

The first Reverso by Jaeger-LeCoultre was created in 1931. This year it celebrates 90 years with a limited edition piece featuring a burgundy-red dial and pink gold case called the Reverso Tribute Duoface Fagliano. The Duoface offers two contrasting dials, each displaying a different time zone, thanks to the hand-wound Calibre 854A/2. The second time zone is adjusted by a small slider set into the top case-band and completely invisible except when the case is released from the carriage to be flipped over. The Reverso concept was developed when polo players wanted a watch but wanted it protected from the rigours of the game. The watchmakers created a flip-over case without compromising its form and function.

Everyone’s a winner

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics Games finally took off, and with that a few Omega timepieces to consider such as this 39.5mm Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M in polished white ceramic dial with a red-tipped central seconds hand to represent the flag of Japan. There is also a white ceramic bezel with a Liquidmetal diving scale and the number 20 filled in red liquid ceramic. Presented on a white leather strap, the watch features a sapphire crystal caseback with the Tokyo 2020 logo transferred in blue, while through the glass, the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 8800 inside can be seen.

In love with the classics

The Defy Classic White timepiece by Zenith features a monochromatic take on the skeletonised Elite calibre housed in a bright white ceramic case and bezel. The silvery multi-layer open dial brings the inner workings of the watch. The purity and unique lustre of the white ceramic and graphic details of the open dial makes this an ideal piece for both men and women. The Defy Classic’s faceted 41 mm case features a combination of polished and satin-brushed surfaces, that highlights the original Defy timepiece that made its debut in the 1970s.

A timepiece for all

The Portofino by IWC can be viewed as a ladies’ watch but with its gender-neutral design, even men can pull off the elegant look. Here we look at the Portofino Automatic 37, an elegant piece in a stainless steel case, automatic, self-winding with a diameter of 37.0 mm and silver-plated dial. Red alligator leather strap by Santoni with a width of 18.0 mm rounds off the look.

Be happy

Chopard’s Happy Sport watch in auspicious red wraps the 33mm-diameter case, and features an ethically sourced 18-carat rose gold case. The watch is intended for women who are equally comfortable in a pair of jeans or dressing to the nines. Inside the watch eight dancing diamonds whirl and twirl, as if to provide an endless live show. These eight diamonds symbolise good luck and guarantee success. Happy Sport watch runs on the Chopard 09.01-C in-house movement.

On the radar

Bell & Ross releases the BR 03-92 Red Radar Ceramic watch in a very bold shade of red that replicates a radar system on an aircraft’s cockpit. The graphics show the scanning motion of the light beam on a radar screen with stunning realism. The BR 03-92 Red Radar Ceramic system comprises two concentric discs which fuse with the dial. Its playful design is reminiscent of a stylised toy. These elements replace the hour and minute hands. In a major new feature, the discs move two tiny screen-printed planes, giving the impression that these are flying over the dial.
