After a five-year hiatus, Shakespeare in the Park returns with its most popular comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Roll out the picnic mat and scrumptious spread under the night sky, and be charmed by this fun-filled frolic in the park.
Brought to you by Singapore Repertory Theatre, the play is directed by Guy Unsworth and stars Julie Wee (The Merchant of Venice, Julius Caesar), Ghafir Akbar (Guards at the Taj, Julius Caesar), Daniel Jenkins (Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar), and Krish Natarajan (The Sound Inside).
Join the cast as they transform the industrial city of Athenia into an enchanted dreamworld of moonlit water and fairyland mayhem. The Fairy King and Queen are at war, four young lovers have eloped to the forest, and a group of tradesmen are rehearsing a play. But it is Midsummer Night, and Puck, as chief mischief-maker, is pulling pranks to ensure that the course of true love is anything but smooth. Puck’s magic spells cause the lovers to change their allegiance, and one of the tradesmen, Nick Bottom, undergoes a shocking transformation.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream will show at Fort Canning Park from May 3 to 28 at 7.30pm. Get your tickets from $50 from SISTIC at 6438 5555 or www.srt.com.sg.

Traditional Japanese flavours | Mikuni
Fairmont Singapore’s Japanese restaurant, Mikuni, presents a brand-new ala carte menu inspired by Japanese cuisine’s rich history and culture. Developed by executive chef Keisuke Uno, the Genten (原点) menu pays close attention to premium, hard-to-find ingredients from Japan and gives the dishes meticulously layered flavours.
Centred around the live sushi and teppanyaki stations, the Genten dining experience begins with a new selection of Assorted Sashimi ($228), where the finest chef’s choice of seven seasonal sashimi is plated with light and refreshing springtime flavours such as Shogoin radish and ponzu. The freshest, air-flown Toro is beautifully presented in two ways: a Black Truffle Carpaccio with Tamari Soy Sauce ($68) and a Kampachi Tartare topped with Caviar and Wasabi Soy Sauce ($78).
Seafood aficionados will revel in the exquisite delicacy of Mikuni’s Signature Hokkaido Sea Urchin, Snow Crab and Scallop ($54). A standout from the Teppanyaki is Chef’s personal favourite, Japanese Tender Abalone (seasonal price).
In celebration of wagyu, Chef has carved out a section of his menu dedicated to this selective cut. The Shabu Shabu Hot Pot ($128) features a generous portion of A5 Ohmi sirloin, carefully sourced vegetables, and an individual hot pot of house-made premium bonito dashi. Another signature dish is the Slow Cooked 24-Hour Miyazaki Pork Belly ($58), made with a rare breed of Kannonike pork from the crossbreed of three different species bred in Takagi-cho, Miyakonojo city, in the Miyazaki prefecture.
To complete the exquisite dining experience, nostalgic desserts like the Saikyo Miso Infused Cheesecake ($25) and Black Sesame Blanc Manger ($25) are finished tableside.
