SINGAPORE (April 8): A choice selection of luxury timepieces ideal for yachting, diving or simply elevating your everyday outfits.
Breguet Marine 5517
Fronting the revamped aesthetic style of Breguet’s Marine line is the Marine 5517, which displays the date at three o’clock, with Roman numerals coated in luminescent material, as are markings on the Breguet minute hand. This self-winding model is available in several variations, including white gold, rose gold and titanium, the last of which features a sunburst slate-grey dial. Gracing the faces of the white gold (blue dial) and rose gold (silvered gold dial) models is an engine-tuned “wave” motif in a nod to the collection’s theme.
The maritime spirit continues on the back of the watch, where the design of the singular oscillating weight is inspired by a ship’s rudder. Its Calibre 777A movement, visible through the sapphire crystal case back, is engineturned and reminiscent of boat decks. Depending on the model, various strap options in brown or blue leather are available. Those who prefer a more sporty style can opt for a rubber alternative as well.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox
Created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s iconic Memovox Polaris watch, the new limited-edition release features a three-crown design and a special alarm function made famous by the 1968 original. Other vintage cues to be discovered on the dial include vanilla Super-LumiNova, trapezoidal index markers, Arabic numerals and the triangle in the dial centre that serves as the alarm indicator. The central disc is controlled by the alarm crown and turns to line up the triangle with the desired alarm time.
Available in 1,000 pieces, the new Polaris Memovox is powered by the Calibre 956, a direct descendant of the first automatic alarm watch movement created by JLC in the 1950s, but still representing the ultimate in accuracy, robustness and reliability. In its latest iteration, this movement features a striking mechanism with a gong, along with a central seconds hand and instant-jump date-change system. The timepiece has a rubber strap with a folding buckle, a power reserve of 44 hours and is water-resistant to 200m.
Vanguard Yachting Anchor Skeleton
Franck Muller’s new iteration of the Vanguard Yachting timepiece is an intense visual spectacle, boasting high legibility despite its open-worked architecture of a threedimensional blue beam and pillar network. At the heart of the watch is the skeletonised caliber, developed in-house and beating at a low 18,000 vibrations per hour, with a wind rose spinning beside it.
A rose gold-accented hemisphere at the bottom end of the dial serves as the lower arc of the constantly sweeping wind rose, while another graces the upper arc of the mainspring barrel bridge with a new seven-day power reserve indicator, distinguished by its red triangle pointer tipped with Super-LumiNova. Look closely, and you will realise that the bridges supporting the mainspring barrel and wind rose are anchor-shaped. These blue anodised aluminium bridges can also be admired through the sapphire crystal case back.
Santos de Cartier Chronograph Watch
Made in line with Alberto Santos-Dumont’s vision of keeping up with the swiftest sky-dwellers, the updated Santos de Cartier Chronograph is just as comfortable in the sea with its water resistance to 10 bar. The model continues to push the envelope in terms of elegance and ergonomics: Its single start/stop push button is visible at nine o’clock and the reset function is directly integrated into the crown. This timepiece is fitted with the 1904-CH MC Cartier Manufacture movement, which distils the chronograph’s ingenious guidance and coordination systems down to a column wheel, vertical clutch and linear reset hammer.
The watch manages to retain all of the Santos de Cartier aesthetics despite its push-piece fastening and unfastening mechanism, a lighter blade and a simple wristband change system that seamlessly blends into the architecture of the case. Choose between steel, alligator leather or rubber straps that can be easily interchanged, thanks to Cartier’s patented QuickSwitch system. Another metal bracelet option allows adjustment to the nearest link using the patented, tool-free SmartLink size adjustment system.
Omega Seamaster Diver 300M in ceramic and titanium
The evolution of Omega’s iconic Seamaster Diver 300M collection continues this year with a bold new 43.5mm model that is built with an edgy combination of strength and good looks. Distinguished by a polished black ceramic case with a wave-edged grade 5 titanium case back, the watch’s bezel includes a black ceramic ring with a diving scale in white enamel on a grade 5 titanium base.
Unlike its peers in the core collection, this edition’s famous Diver 300M waves are laser-engraved on the brushed black ceramic dial to result in a uniquely raised “positive relief” effect. Also on the dial are PVD titanium hands and indexes filled with white Super-LumiNova. Under the case back’s sapphire crystal, you will find the Omega Master Chronometer Calibre 8806, which has been certified and tested by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology to ensure the industry’s highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic resistance. ‘Laureus Sport for Good’
This sporty diver’s watch is the 13th special-edition timepiece issued by IWC Schaffhausen as part of its commitment to support the Laureus World Sports Awards. Powered by the IWC-manufactured 89365 chronograph movement with flyback function, the timepiece features a rubber-coated stainless steel case with its dial in a distinctive Laureus blue. Its case back is engraved with a drawing by 15-year-old Melan from Sri Lanka, winner of IWC’s annual drawing competition this year, which was organised together with Laureus as part of the programmes supported by the foundation.
At the latest annual Laureus World Sports Awards held in Monaco, IWC CEO Christoph Grainger-Herr presented three of these 1,000-piece special-edition watches to Mexican golf legend Lorena Ochoa, Argentine field hockey icon Luciana Aymar and five-time Olympic gold medallist swimmer Missy Franklin. These outstanding women are the newest members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, an exclusive circle of living sports legends responsible for crowning the winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards each year.
