With more than 730 open properties across the region, the hospitality giant sees Vietnam as a bright spot, alongside India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand

Nasdaq-listed hospitality giant Marriott International announced in November 2015 a major acquisition: It would merge with New York Stock Exchange-listed competitor Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide to create what was said to be “the world’s largest hotel company”.

Earlier that year, Marriott veteran Rajeev Menon took on additional responsibilities as chief operating officer for the brand’s business across Asia Pacific excluding China (Apec). Menon, a Marriott veteran since 2001, had been based in Sydney, Delhi, and Mumbai over the years. With the promotion, he moved to Singapore, where he began overseeing the region.
