Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ) has deployed an autonomous robot by advanced integrated security services provider Certis to provide a safer and better shopper experience.

Called Oscar, the robot uses sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) to detect threats or undesirable behaviours, and sound alerts upon encountering them during its patrol at PLQ 1, 2 and the open plaza.

“It conducts AI surveillance at defined hotspots to detect illegally-parked bicycles, fires, and people smoking in non-designated areas,” Isabelle Lim, vice president and head of Ops-Tech, Certis, explains at a media briefing.

Oscar also transmits live feeds to Certis’ Mozart, which consolidates that data with information feeds from CCTVs, sensors, and intercom systems across four PLQ buildings onto a single command-and-control platform.

The integrated surveillance data allows Certis’ BPRO Command Centre (BCC) to easily identify issues — such as visitors loitering at unauthorised areas — and alert its on-site officers to resolve them in a timely manner.

Additionally, Oscar will be used to help enforce safe distancing measures at PLQ from October onwards to prevent the spread of Covid-19. It will be equipped with safe distancing video analytics to identify crowding and remind shoppers to maintain a safe distance between each other, shares Lim.

By then, shoppers can also access the mall directory using Oscar's touch screen.

Oscar, Mozart, and BCC are part of Certis’ Security+ solution, which combines advanced security, guest services and integrated facilities management into a single holistic service, supported and underpinned by technology.

“The low-touch economy is here to stay, and we understand the need to provide our clients like PLQ with innovative solutions to enhance their shoppers’ and tenants’ experiences. With Security+, clients can achieve cost-effective and future-ready operations while focusing on their core business,” says Lim.
