SINGAPORE (Oct 3): A survey by the Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) found that 37% of independent directors have served for more than nine years on the boards of Singapore-listed companies.

Meanwhile, a small minority of listed firms here do not have independent directors making up at least one third of their board seats, says SID in its biennial 2018 Singapore Directorship Report which was published on Wednesday.

Based on an analysis of 2,356 independent directorships, the average tenure of independent directors here was 7.3 years. For companies that have been listed for nine years or more, 289 companies -- or 55.3% -- have at least one independent director who has served on the board for more than nine years.
