A Girl Friday, one who simply followed instructions “rather blindly”. That, according to the lawyer of convicted market manipulator Quah Su-ling, was all she was and nothing more.

N Sivananthan of David Nayar and Associates argued before the Court of Appeal on Tuesday (May 6) that his client was never the key person behind the events that powered the shares of Blumont, Asiasons and Liongold (BAL) prior to their crash in 2013.

Quah and her lover Soh Chee Wen are appealing their convictions for orchestrating Singapore’s largest securities fraud through BAL. They were found guilty of covertly controlling nominee accounts to fake market activity and deceiving financial institutions into providing hundreds of millions in financing to fuel the scheme from 2012 to 2013.
