Singapore will be building a new AI park at LaunchPad @ One-North, says Deputy Prime Minister and Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong.

Gan was speaking at the Ministry of Trade and Industry’s (MTI) Committee of Supply debate on Mar 2 when he announced the new initiative. The new AI park will be named “Kampong AI, Singapore’s Hub and Home for AI” and will be built by JTC, a statutory board under MTI.

LaunchPad @ One-North was first opened in January 2015. The property development is managed by JTC and houses startups, incubators, accelerators and venture capitalists.

“‘Kampong AI’ will accelerate collaboration, and serve as a centre of gravity for AI excellence,” Gan says, noting that the park will serve “as a focal point where talent, problem owners, researchers and resources can come together to create synergy and nurture a deep ecosystem.”

According to JTC, Kampong AI will be the first integrated startup community in Singapore equipped with both work and living spaces. Aside from being able to set up their offices in Kampong AI, AI companies will be able to house their employees on-site. JTC says leading AI players have begun exploring spaces within Kampong AI but did not specify who the companies were.

“We intend to bring together a focused cluster of AI-driven enterprises under one roof, with dedicated infrastructure and live-work convenience that founders need to move fast, scale smart, and attract world-class talent from across the globe,” says Jacqueline Poh, JTC’s chief executive.

Kampong AI will comprise two repurposed blocks in the extended LaunchPad estate and is slated for completion in 2028. The first block is targeted at AI companies and will provide 14,500 square metres of business park units. JTC says the block will be about half the size of PLQ Mall in Payar Lebar and can house up to 70 companies and event spaces. The second block is residential focused and will feature over 200 dwelling units.

In the meantime, a pilot phase for Kampong AI will be launched from March 2026. As part of the pilot phase, existing workspaces in LaunchPad @ One-North will be used to host AI companies and startups.

Aside from Kampong AI, AI companies can also tap on the Ministry of Digital Development and Information’s collaborative workspace for the community, Lorong AI. Lorong AI currently has two locations. The first site is located at 22 Cross Street, and a second site was recently opened in Vidacity at LaunchPad @ One-North.

Singapore goes big on AI

The new AI park is part of a wider push by Singapore’s government to gain a foothold in AI. On Feb 12, Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong says he will set up and chair a new National AI Council. The council will oversee a set of “National AI Missions” that aim to drive AI implementation in advanced manufacturing, connectivity, finance and healthcare.

Earlier, on Jan 24, Digital Development and Information Minister Josephine Teo announced at the Singapore AI Research Week’s gala dinner that the city-state will be investing over $1 billion as part of its National AI R&D Plan (NAIRD). The NAIRD aims to nurture young AI research talent and drive fundamental AI research. The plan will run from 2025 to 2030.

“AI is a powerful tool — but it is still a tool. It must serve our national interests and our people. We will define how AI is developed and used in Singapore,” says Wong during his budget speech on Feb 12.
