Thailand delays TPP decision indefinitely following opposition backlash
Thai opposition, civil society and prominent social figures claim that the CPTPP would hurt Thai agriculture and healthcare.

(Apr 28): Thailand’s cabinet will not consider on Tuesday whether Thailand will seek membership of an Asia-Pacific trade agreement, which could boost its economy hit by the coronavirus pandemic, due to widespread opposition.

The proposal to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) was withdrawn a day before the cabinet meeting by Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Jurin Laksanavisit.

“Due to conflict between different groups, the commerce ministry has withdrawn its proposal,” Jurin told reporters.
