The luxury boom sparked by the pandemic has slowed. Now, counterfeit superfakes are adding a new layer of trouble. Industry experts weigh in on how brands can fight back.

A luxury handbag is more than an accessory; it is a status symbol. Beyond its craftsmanship, it can give an instant boost of confidence and even change the way someone carries themselves. For Lynn (not her real name), who works in the media industry, that feeling, however, did not last. She only realised something was off after using the bag for a while. “I carried the bag around for a while before realising it was a fake, mainly because the brand plate got blemished,” she tells The Edge Singapore.

Imitation, or fake, handbags and accessories have evolved far beyond the cheap knockoffs of the past. Today, many are almost indistinguishable from the real thing, earning them the nickname “Superfakes”.
