Medi Lifestyle, which was formerly known as engineering firm IEV Holdings, has launched a genetic screening service in Singapore and Malaysia.

The service, which carries the brand name Qodify, was launched by Medi Lifestyle’s indirect wholly-owned subsidiary HealthPro Marketing Sdn Bhd.

The service looks at the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) of individuals to screen for risks of various diseases and health traits.

In addition, it also looks into a person’s personality traits, including optimism and empathy, or whether you’re suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

According to Medi Lifestyle, the global genetic testing market exceeded US$14.8 billion ($19.8 billion) in 2020 and is projected to grow 11.6% annually to reach US$31.9 billion by 2027.

It adds that direct-to-consumer genetic screening in Singapore and Malaysia is emerging from its nascent phase. This is due to the growing number of local genomics laboratories offering cost-efficient genetic screening services as well as the growing affluence and health awareness of the population in the markets.

“Genetic profiling is the process of identifying the genetic make-up of an individual and linking it to their physical and mental traits. The process is often done for medical purposes, but we at HealthPro Marketing believe that everyone should have knowledge of their own genetic blueprint so that everyone performs at their best in life,” says Dato’ Low Koon Poh, executive chairman and CEO of Medi Lifestyle.

Shares in Medi Lifestyle closed 0.1 cent higher or 4.17% up at 2.5 cents on Sept 10.
