The WHO director general added that preventive measures must be put in place in essential places, such as workplaces and schools. Importation risks must also be managed. In addition, communities should be fully informed and engaged on how to adjust to the new norm.
SINGAPORE (May 8): On April 15, the director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, made two Twitter postings that are crucial for the resumption of economic activity. His tweets listed the observance of six conditions before countries can start lifting restrictions.
For one, the transmission of the novel coronavirus needs to be under control. Secondly, a country’s healthcare systems must be able to detect, test, isolate and treat every case, as well as trace every contact. Moreover, risks of further outbreak should be minimised in “special settings”.
