Malaysia and Singapore are discussing possibly reopening their borders to one another in the near future, The Star reported, citing Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah.

Saifuddin said he was informed the health ministers of both countries have discussed reopening the borders by phone, the Malaysian newspaper reported. The matter has also been brought to Defense Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, who leads the committee that manages the pandemic in Malaysia.

  • Reopening the border between Singapore and Malaysia would pave the way for opening air routes with other nations like Thailand, Saifuddin said.
  • Johor Chief Minister Hasni Mohammad said separately that Johor will submit a proposal to Putrajaya to open the border with Singapore through a daily commuting arrangement.
