SINGAPORE (Feb 21): If you are looking for raw power, then you will struggle to beat BMW’s first ever M8 Competition Coupé.

This sleek looking Coupé has the most powerful engine ever developed by BMW M for a production model. Designed with a 2+2 seating formation, the new M8 also houses a beast under the bonnet – a 4.4 litre V8 TwinTurbo engine. And in case you don’t know, M is the high performance division of BMW.

This latest edition to the BMW 8 Series model range raises the bar even further when it comes to delivering supreme performance with a unique blend of dynamism, agility and precision. The abundance of power is harnessed by an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission along with BMW’s Drivelogic technology. This tech harnesses the engine’s power to maximum effect before it is channeled to the road via the M xDrive all-wheel drive system.

The beauty of the new M8 Competition Coupé is that it has been designed and tuned with the specific demands of track use in mind. Perfect for the boy racer
in you, in other words. But it is equally at home on the open roads of Singapore, with its cutting edge chassis technology and newly developed M-Specific integrated braking system (giving the driver two different brake pedal feel settings) – making it an ideal everyday car too.

You enjoy a luxurious cabin with The M8 Competition Coupé, complete with a high level of comfort and technology

Everything works so well together in the new BMW M8 Competition Coupé as the powertrain system, chassis technology and aerodynamics have been carefully
honed through intensive testing. This was undertaken at BMW Group’s test track in Miramas in southern France, the winter testing centre in Arjeplog, Sweden and the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife circuit, along with other race circuits.

It is hard to deny the rich sporting heritage of the M range of cars and their intensive testing in race conditions. Experience collected from the development of the BMW M8 GTE racing car also played a role in the design of the Competitive Coupé. The results are very impressive: The performance focused engine, transmission and chassis help the M8 sprint from 0 to 100 kph in just 3.2 seconds.

Even if you are not a speed demon or a fan of motor racing, the high revving V8 engine will get your heart pumping, even before you drive off.

The BMW M8 Competition Coupé is a compelling blend of razor sharp responses, a feverish appetite for revs and sustained power delivery. All this adds up to is a peak torque of 750 Nm. On top of this thrill a second driving experience is a stirring soundtrack that comes courtesy of the M Sport exhaust system. The noise is a constant reminder of the engine’s awesome power, as it comes alive as soon as you press on the accelerator.

The Drivelogic button on the newly designed selector lever gives the driver three driving modes: Efficient, sporty or ultra dynamic driving. You can also toggle between automated and manual mode, allowing the driver to choose between a comfort oriented, sports focused drive or a track optimised gear shift experience. To make shifting gear easier, there are also M gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.

While power and sporty performance are major features of the BMW M8 Competition Coupé, so too is its comfortable driveability. BMW is all about driving pleasure and the new M8 is no exception. It comes with the M xDrive all-wheel drive system giving the car excellent road handling and responsiveness. With all that power and performance, it is good to know the car won’t get out of control.

This new BMW M8 Competition Coupé is all about giving you different choices and changing the driving experience to suit your mood and preferences. So you can choose between the default 4-wheel drive (4WD) setting and 4WD Sport mode, which sends a lot of power to the rear wheels. On top of this, M Mode allows the driver to activate Road and Sport settings, while the Track setting is designed exclusively for use on race circuits.

The first ever BMW M8 also comes with jaw-dropping looks. While the body shape is sleek and stylish, it can never hide its sportiness. The double bubble contour of the carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) is a highlight of the aesthetics, bringing to mind classic sports cars of old. Large air intakes and the famous BMW kidney grille add to its great looks, while a rear diffuser and spoiler (also made from CFRP) cap things off nicely. The chunky 20 inch light alloy wheels come with compound brakes as standard, and these can be upgraded to M carbon ceramic ones.

Being a BMW, you enjoy a luxurious cabin with The M8 Competition Coupé complete with a high level of comfort and technology, plus features you’d expect from a high performance sports car. These include an M specific cockpit design and newly developed sports seats. This luxury car also comes with the BMW Display Key, Head-Up Display and Parking Assistant Plus. The abundance of technology includes the BMW Live Cockpit Professional with navigation system and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. In all, it is hard to imagine a more sporty, luxurious and technology driven car on the market
