SINGAPORE (April 1): While “Living Coral” was picked as Pantone’s 2019 colour of the year, yellow looks set to be the star shade on the beaches and the streets this summer. A host of brands put this sunny shade centre stage in their spring/summer 2019 collections. All that remains now is to find the look or hue that best suits you, your style and your freshly sunkissed skin. Here are three ways to bring a ray of sunshine to this summer’s looks.

Bucolic vibe

For a bucolic look that works day or night, shop for pieces that match yellow with flowers, such as floral prints or embroideries. As well as livening up your look, this combination will also bring a laid-back vibe with a slightly bohemian flavour to spring and summer wardrobes. This winning pairing can work with all womenswear garments, from fluid loose-cut pants to crop tops, shirts, dresses, swimwear and all manner of accessories. Go bold!

For a bolder look, load up with pieces in dazzling, super-bright yellow shades to bring an uplifting dose of optimism to your wardrobe all summer long. Major fashion houses had a field day finishing garments in vibrant hues, in turn evoking travel, party vibes and even childhood memories with fun and throwback pieces. In a nod to the 1990s, some brands even opted for neon yellow — a strong trend for the season. Trend seen at Prabal Gurung, Off-White (right) and Versace (left).

Touch of sun

Those who tend to stick to subtler or darker shades can try adding a touch of yellow to their outfit with accessories, for a more discreet way of rocking the trend. And there was no shortage of lemon yellow, mustard yellow and pastel yellow accessories on the runways of Paris, London, Milan and New York at the spring/summer 2019 shows last September. A yellow accessory can instantly lift an all-black look or add a bold flash to an already-colourful outfit. Fashion fans could opt for a belt, handbag, hat, scarf or even footwear.
